Sheets supplied with new sailboats

What's your experience with sizing and materials for halyards and other running rigging supplied with new sailboats? Are they sized correctly and are the materials the cheapest available? What do you replace them with after their life is spend?

Re: Sheets supplied with new sailboats

Like all things sailing.... It Depends.

Boats that the builders supply with cheap or substandard equipment typically aren't the kinds of boats that are likely to benefit from incremental upgrades in running rigging.

A good builder will supply running rigging that is selected to match the performance characteristics of the boat. Low stretch, high tech lines where they make sense and simple polyester double where that is better, or at least sufficient.

It is a rare boat outside the high performance racing circuit where jib or main sheets of spectra are really useful for anything other than emptying your overstuffed wallet. Halyards, are a different story.

So, in general your question is impossible to answer. There are too many builders of different kinds of boats. They are all different.
