Sheave replacement

The Sheaves on top of my mast need to be replaced and I am having difficulty finding a replacement for them. The rope diameter is the easy part but I'm at a lose how to determine the axle diameter and width. The easy thing would be to measure them but this becomes difficult while they are still attached to the mast. Ideally I'd like have no sheaves in hand before I take them out.

Any thoughts? The boat is a 33 NewPort with the tall rig option. There is a site I found that has lots of sheaves but of course I don't know which one to get. Let me know what you think.

Get an offcut of 0.6mm aluminium sheet and cut a few slots in it to correspond to the popular pin sizes. You should have enough clearance between the sheave and the sheave box to slide the template in and thereby find the slot that fits snugly over the axle.
Means a trip to the mast head, though..

first you would need to know the manufacturer and size of your mast. this site has some good info including diagrams of the masthead assembly where the sheaves would be. did yours lock up or something? good luck.

Thanks for the info. I have wire halyards that have worn the sheaves down and is causing lots of friction when raising and dousing the sails. I'm moving to rope halyards and want to replace the whole unit. How difficult is it to replace the axle?
