Seatiger 555 chain pawl

I have a Seatiger 555 manual windlass that we just tried for the first time after replacing a dead electric windlass. The first time we used it the chain kept jumping out of the pawl. It appears to be the correct size and if I have to upsize the chain it's going to be massive for the size of the boat: 38'.
Also, if anyone knows of a supply for Seatiger parts, that would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Seatiger 555 chain pawl

I seem to remember the standard gypsy on the 555 took 5/16 HT chain.
Never had a problem with the chain jumping, rock solid windlass.

Re: Seatiger 555 chain pawl

I've got a SeaTiger, but have yet to install it (our old bronze ABI keeps working just fine). Our gypsy is the RCB70, which according to the manual Gord posted will take chain:
  • 9.5mm S-L 0058004 / 0058202
  • 3/8 American BBB
  • 3/8 American High Test
  • 10mm Most European
Which gypsy do you have Rick? It must be stamped somewhere.

Re: Seatiger 555 chain pawl

am I to assume that 5/16 HT chain indicates the thickness of the "wire" used in fabrication? The thickness of the link?

Re: Seatiger 555 chain pawl

The chain size does refer to the side of the wire but there are different lengths of links depending on the type of chain; proof coil or BBB for instance.
The part number for the gypsy is cast into its side. The manual has the gypsy numbers and indicates what size and type of chain your gypsy will accept.
I just went through this same exercise this week as my old anchor chain was very rusty and due for replacement.
