I have a Hallberg Rassy 49 built 1985, it is in need for repair.
The deck is leaking (dripping on to bunks and sofa)
Have been in contact with the HR yard, who claims it is silicon between the the teak deck and the fiberglass that have dried out.
The teak must bee removed, fiberglass deck repaired, and then new teak deck. I also need to change some of the wiring.
Planing to arrive Fiji summer 2015
Can someone suggest a cheep and good place to do this?
Phuket (Malaysia) has been suggested.

Frankly, I'd want the boat to be water tight before I left Norway. If you take off the teak decks to repair the deck, that's pretty straightforward. If you love teak decks and want to install new ones after you get to Malaysia (friends did a similar job in Langkawi), the teak is available there. They were able to re-use most of theirs, but you've half a world to cross before you're there. So, after you repair the deck, I'd use non-skid paint on it, of the sort that is used in public areas. Here in Australia, it is called "acrylmeric sportcote". It is relatively inexpensive, and is great as non-skid. There are a few colors available. We got white (easier to walk on in the tropics, but stains easily).

If you've never had to do it, living in a boat that is wet on the inside gets miserable pretty fast, hence my thoughts. I hope you consider fixing the deck before you leave, but to an easy to change to new teak upon arrival where teak is available and affordable...or not, if you come to like it plain.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Bought the boat in Fiji in 2012, sailed one year in south east Pacific.
(Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonian, Australia, New Zealand and Tonga)
Started June 2013 from Fiji on a circumnavigation, boat now in Curacao (north of Venezuela. Returning to Fiji by Panama, Galapagos, French Polynesia, Tahiti and Samoa.

The leaking is dripping in some places when deck is really soaked.
No big problem when fresh water, but a problem with salt water.
It is the third circumnavigation for the boat, and it might be time for some
basic repairs. Seeking alternative yard in the Pacific for repairs

Hey Tor, Greg on Cocokai. If I were you Trinidad is closer to you now and is supposed to have good woodworkers at a cheap price. We got a great price on our deck replacement in Boat Lagoon in Phuket, Thailand, a bit far from you now. We're in Barbados, heading you're way next week. Cheers

Curacao Marine is a good place to work on the boat and get work done. I sure wouldn't go back to the expense, maintenance and hassle of a replacement teak deck. Rip off the old, fix the rotted core if any, repair the deck holes and paint. Curacao marine has a great interior paint booth.
Heading back to Trinidad from Curacao for work would be a tough ride uphill.

2nd Paul L. Get rid of the teak deck. It's a throw back to not so glorious days of wooden boats. They leaked then and they leak now. Can't believe they used sillycone as a sealant. That's a leak guarantee. Hopefully the deck is not cored or the leaks are not extensive as fixing a rotted core is not fun or cheap.
