Sail Graphics

Hello All,

I have been researching on line the process used to print colored graphics on sails and companies that do it and have come up empty. I thought there might be something similar (but different) like how vehicles are wrapped with graphics. I found plenty of companies that can attached letters or numbers but no graphics.

Has anyone done this or know of a company or the process used if it is available?

I want to have an Autism Awareness logo on my mizzen sail, probably in the range of 10' high X 5" wide.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Sail Graphics

Contact IMOCA, Class 40 or Mini sailors. Most of them carry logo covered sails.

Re: Sail Graphics

The IMOCA and Class 40 guys all use laminate sails so sticking graphic to them is easy. I am assuming that you have Dacron. Talk to your sailmaker. My suggestion would be sticky back dacron (insignia cloth). Get a sample and take it to your printer and see if he can print on it with something that does not run. If he can, get the logo printed and then have your sailmaker cut out the ribbon and stick it to the sail. FYI insignia cloth comes 54" wide so the size you want is possible. The only question is the ink.
Cheers

Re: Sail Graphics

I work with a couple of companies in Asia that have inkjet printers that will print on to the dacron before the sail is assembled. The heavier the dacron the less accurate the image will be. Not possible for a sail that is already made unless print onto insignia cloth and then attach.
