Running Rigging Question (lines on/ through the boom)

I've never used these two lines on the boom. I don't have a picture handy so I'll describe them as best I can.

Looking at the end of the boom there are 4 places for lines that run through it. Two are positioned at the top as outhaul and possibly a backup outhaul. Then there are two more that are horizontally positioned lines. They are color coded to match port and starboard. There is a good bit of line bundled up near the mast and just a stopper knot at the end of the boom.

What are these meant for? I first thought possibly a jibe preventer, but have no reason to believe they have ever been used for this purpose. When I go back out to the boat I'll take a picture.

The lines do have hand locking levers near the mast, same as the outhaul.

Re: Running Rigging Question (lines on/ through the boom)

As to the two on top, one's the outhaul, & the other's likely the flattener. A line not found on all boats. Or a reefing line, say for the 3rd reef. As the other two are reefing lines for the clew reef grommets.

I had considered reefing lines. Thank you.

Yes reefing lines. Should be run through the clew reefing cringle on the sail and back down to the boom. Can be tied around the boom or led to a padeye.

I agree. Reefing lines. You will also note that they are different length. The green one is probably the first reef while the red is the very likely the deeper (2nd) reef.
