Ropes on a Brig

I am about to buy a 53ft Ketch / Brigantine steel sailboat
and the ropes will need replacing very soon - can you all advise on the " Best " Ropes as in a brand and type

I would like to color code these as there are many ropes on a Brigantine

there are as far as i know no ropes on a brig!

only sheets,lines and rodes

the only rope is perhaps the lash and the hangmans noose......me hearty

New England Ropes "spun dacron". Three strand for traditional look. Soft and fuzzy so easy on the hands. I think it only comes in white, however.

Good line, it doesn't stay bright white for long. I use filament Dacron, doesn't have the fuzzy finish and is a bit stronger. Proud owner of nearly 2000 feet of the stuff in various sizes and no complaints yet. It is considerably cheaper than the braided line and you can do all kinds of traditional rigging with 3 strand that is not possible with braided line.

Whaddya mean. atoll? We've got footropes, and bellropes. Those are ropes, aren't they? And sheets are lines. And so, believe it or not, are bowlines.

You have a modern rig, Indigo Sky, so I don't see why you shouldn't have a modern braid. I don't see any reason to get fancy, and see no reason at all for color coding. You'll have them all memorized after a good day sailing.

some of these new fangled boats have boltropes as well......too easy

rum ,sodomy and the lash kept the matlows on their toes,rope or indian hemp,kiff was something that was smoked in a clay pipe,and greatly eased the life of a true brigand!

A brig is not a brigantine, and a ketch with squaresail on the main is not a brig nor is it a brigantine. And the sails are, as others have noted here, managed with lines, sheets and halyards. If you have to color code the lines on a simple two masted rig, go ahead and use poly pro braid.
