Roller Furler

I purchased a project boat which is a 1977, 8.7 Columbia. The mast is unstepped and on the boat. It has a roller furler and the installation and operation manual that came with the boat names it the reefer r.8&9. It appears to be in good shape. Is anyone familiar with this manufacturer. I think it was made by Cruising Design, Inc in Peabody, Massachusetts. Any info good or bad is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Roller Furler

It's a CDI furler. Cheap integral halyard furler. Popular on trailerable boats. Just do a Google search on "CDI furlers" for more info.

I guess the key word here is cheap. From that I assume I should replace it. Anyone have anything good to say about the CDI reefer. Thanks

I wouldn't say you should replace it necessarily. If it's working satisfactorily, it's fine for casual recreational sailing.
