Rerigging Problems

We have decided to replace the standing rigging on our main mast before we cross the Indian Ocean. Most of the components are available here in Phuket off the shelf. The one issue for which we have not found a suitable solution to is how to get a new rod headstay and inner forestay here from the USA.

Our Reckmann furlers were designed to be used with rod rigging and although we've heard its possible to use Dyform in its place, it seems like a less-than-ideal solution. Since the headstay uses -22 rod, the smallest diameter it can be rolled into is 6'. For the life of me, I cannot find a freight forwarder who can ship a 6'x6'x1' crate to Thailand.

I will be forever grateful if someone can help.

Fair winds and calm seas.

Maybe they're afraid you'll be shipping a human body inside.

Have you considered ordering from OZ (Australia).

Re: Rerigging Problems

Try Peters and May or Sevenstar and others yacht shipping specialists. They ship funny shaped packages around the world as well as whole boats.

If you can wait and do a part container shipment it should be easy for anyone.

I am in the same process of planning a re-rig. Dyform looks like a reasonable option and I like the way you don't need to cold head it. If it fits the Reckmann it may be the easiest replacement.

Re: Rerigging Problems

Doing a part container would be cheapest. Could get it to Singapore easily but there to Phuket may need you to collect it yourself or organise local trans-shipment. Singapore is expensive so collect it quickly or preferably load onto your own boat and get out of there fast. I shipped from Houston but west coast might be easier.

Re: Rerigging Problems

From where is the new rigging originating?
