Replacing Traveler Car Shackle

Hey everyone, I was hoping that I'd be able to contribute a bit more with my first post but I guess it was not meant to be.

Does anyone know how to replace the broken shackle (attached image)? I am asking because it would seem like taking the car off from the traveler would not help and taking the car off would require unscrewing the whole traveler - hard task in this particular boat. Even if I remove the car from the traveler I'll still have the same problem?

The movement of the "pin/peg" (dont know what it is called in English) that is holding the shackle is not being inhibited by the traveler itself or the metal cable. The pin is simply stuck within the traveler car from design. But there must be a way to get it off. I guess I'll have to get the car off the traveler, maybe there is something on the underside of it that will allow me to release the pin and the shackle? Any clues? Thanks!

Re: Replacing traveler car shackle

Welcome to the forum.

You shouldn't have to pull up the track. If it was properly installed it will have a stopper at the end. These stoppers can usually be removed fairly easily--usually held down with a single fastener. Then just slide the car all the way off.

For the life of me I don't see how they build the thing.

Looks like you have one of these:

RWO (Marine Equipment) Ltd

So might contact RWO here:

One often must pull up the track to free the car. There is probably a little plate 'keeper' under the pin. Just do it.

Re: Replacing Traveler Car Shackle

I'd check with RWO before doing much work. According to their description:

Quote:
Standard Traveller Car for RWO XT2 Traveller Track is formed from heavy SS plate with SS axles and a permanently affixed pivoting bail for attachment to mainsheet block.
That "permanently affixed" bail makes me think there is no easy way.
