remove & sell in-boom furling

Has anyone or does anyone know the details of going back to traditional main reefing/system. Boat has in boom furling, and id like to remove it, sell the kit and buy a new regular boom.

Re: remove & sell in-boom furling

A friend of ours did. He sold the old boom and fitted a new one. He re-used the old sail.

Re: remove & sell in-boom furling

I'm doing that right now, not worth selling ,i just reused the boom and binned the rest, would not even give it away. I would not put someone else through the pain i have had with boom furling.
Only good for day sailers and fools, stick to fool proof slab reefing!

Re: remove & sell in-boom furling

Thanks - can you briefly outline the requirements for me?
My guess is:
1. replace gooseneck + boom
2. remove mast track filler
3. add slugs to mains'l

What am I missing?

Re: remove & sell in-boom furling

More for my own curiosity, and absolutely no help to you at all, would you mind briefly outlining the problems you had with the boom reefing?

We have slab reefing, and it works well enough, but I am curious to know what sort of problems boom furling presented from someone who clearly is not emotionally bonded to it by the recent expenditure of large amounts of cash. (I hope)

The foot of your main will ask for a mod too. There are many ways to attach it to the boom, so look at them and see which one you like best.

Then you may want to add reef points too.

Sail on the boom will also require a UV bag, if you leave yours on the boom.

You may want lazy jacks.

Check how the main sheet attaches as there may be some mods there too.
