Was your boat ever called "Flying Englishman"?? It sounds like the zipped mainsail shelf we used on that Cal28 in the late 1960's. It wasn't a reef, it was to give a fuller mainsail when reaching and running.

Before we dubbed her tsunami she was called Cal o'mine. We think she may have had a name before that because the transom looks like it has some shadowing that might be letters on it, but we can't make them out. She was in Sausalito for a long time. I was under the impression she had spent her career on the bay. Would this be where the Flying Englishman sailed? She is hull 181. has the outboard in the lazerette. This sail with the zipper has the C28 logo on it. I would love to have abit of her history if you think it's the same boat!

zip ease

We use a zipease product in the diving world, I believe it's bee's wax, works great on bronse zippers.

Best thing for a zipper is a wax stick. Divers have been using them for years to keep metal zips working on dry suits. You can get it at any dive shop
