Be very careful with tieing down the INNER grommets with HEAVY line around the boom. IF the reef line lets go at the clew your main's belly will get torn out. These grommets aren't meant to hold much tension. Use very light line. They'll break before your main tears, hopefully..

If one's main is fitted with reefing pendant cringles, one can use light line with a short length of velcro sewn to each end. The loose bunt of the sail is rolled up, the pendent passed between the slugs at the foot of the sail, or under the boom if a bolt roap is used on the sail and the ends connected with the overlapped velcro rather than being tied. It takes very little strength to support the bunt of the sail and in the even one looses the outboard reef line, or forgets to release the pendants before raising the sail to full hoist, the velcro will release well before the sail can be damaged.
