Profurl questions

Need some expert advice on a Profurl system already installed on our boat.
We have a newish Profurl system installed in 2007 by the previous owner. My documentation is not completely clear on which model I have. There are some scribbles next to the c420, so thought I had a c420. But looking at the Profurl specs that is only good to 3/8" wire, and the shrouds are something like 5/16 Dyform or othercompact wire. So i doubt the head stay is less. That would be stupid and troubling.

Also I see the 420 is rate only to a 45 foot boat and 600 sq ft of sail area. I just bought a 120% genoa that is about 1,100 sq feet. The boat is 44' on deck but with a 5' sprit, so her sail plan is for a 49' boat.

Any idea of how I can tell with clarity which model i have?

In the event I have some 420 variant (apparently some 420 modles will go to 1/2" wire) what are implications of carrying that much sail area on that size furler?

Our current genoa is a Yankee of about 800 sq ft. 10oz cloth, so the new 120% genoa weighs less and occupies less room, so should roll up fine.

Do you have any photos of the furler? Have you checked their website?

I would not think your headstay is larger than your shrouds. My stays are -40 rod, and the headstay is -22.

Pro-Furl guys are quite helpful. Look-up & call. Send photos. They can answer questions.

Is the forestay not visible at the deck fitting or just above in the base of the furler? Otherwise, you should be able to gauge the wire at the mast head. Its not a pabe idea to go up there on a new-to-you boat anyway to inspect lots of things.

C420 means the diameter is 42mm. C420 allows stay dimeter of 10mm

If the unit is undersized for your vessel you may have to change headsails in heavier weather or add a cutter or solent stay for heavy weather.

I'll be at the boat tomorrow and can check some things out then.

Legs are not real keen on climbing the mast yet again. We have had the boat for going on three years now. Never really needed to question the furler till I got bored and started to check things out.

BTW it is a cutter so we have a stay sail.

An undersized furler will deteriorate sooner if loaded.

Furling in a puff will be more difficult than with a properly sized unit.

The drum may not have enough capacity for the bigger sail.

OK, my apologies here, brain fart on my part.

Did confirm we hack a NC420 furler and that the new sail is within its limits. Just but still OK.
