Please Help Identify Maker of Snatch Block

Could anyone ID the makers mark that appears below?

I bought some used snatch blocks a few months ago. When I used one of the blocks today it was not turning.

There is only one apparent access point for grease under a screw, but I want to download instructions to make sure I don't mess them up...

Or if one of the "old salts" could provide maintenance tips, that too would be appreciated.

If I recall correctly, that trident symbol is an indicator for Merriman marine products.

I've been searching the Internet for manuals on how to lubricate snatch blocks and have been striking out. FYI when doing this type of search be sure to include the word "block" or you can get some unusual responses.

That said, I would appreciate any tips on how to make them turn smoother. Are supposed to put grease in the screw hole?

The Merriman blocks I have cleaned came apart easily when the screw was removed. Simple roller bearing inside. Simple to service. I don't think any grease would be used on snatch blocks. Rinse in fresh water after use.

I've had good luck just squirting a little oil (not WD40) toward the axles and then working them back and forth until you can get them to turn freely. Actually I didn't have any oil handy in a little squirt can so I used the dipstick from my truck to dribble a little bit of oil in the last one I freed. If you have the time just soak them in a bucket full of freshwater for awhile and let those salt crystals start to dissolve.

Well, I'm not quite old (except to my wife), but that is a Merriman block. I have them (and Merriman turnbuckles) on my 40 year old racer-cruiser. They are well worth keeping and are easy to refurbish. Use a light coating (like a pinhead or slightly larger on your fingertip) of winch grease or even lithium/white/wheel grease.
