Old Sails or Sailcloth?

Hi All! I'm new to the forum (though I've been a voyeur for years), and I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I've got a couple projects on the go (for the house, not the boat. I haven't gotten it yet). Since I love sailing and sailboats, I wanted to incorporate that in. Does anyone know where I might be able to scrounge for old or scrap sails and sailcloth in Vancouver, BC?

Much appreciated

Check with the local sail lofts and yacht clubs. There are usually a lot of old junk sails that can be scrounged for free.

There might be a larger selection down Seattle way...

Sail-Rite sells scraps cheap. I bought a box for about $25 and made lots of stuff.

If you are thinking of something outside in the sun then think again as new sailcloth will only last 1 - 2 years.

Re: Old Sails or Sailcloth?

I have an old sail in Squamish, a yankee 100% jib. Dacron. Showed it to a sailmaker and he said it is not worth repairing, I have kept it as a crazy emergency back up of the backup, I already have three other jibs.

Make me an offer that will let me part with it by PM (it's my hooly ***** i blew through three sails backup so it still has some use) and you can come and get it. Its a 27 foot boat so I think it's 35 ft at the top by 16ft at the bottom but dont quote me on that. I have the same sail brand new on board so I could part with it and free up some space on the sail rack.

FYI no its not all shredded I can still mount it the clew and luff is fine. just old and well used, if you want the weathered look for your project this would be your sail
