Scan strut, like any other aluminum piece that is powder coated will flake apart if scratched. I do know that the scan strut substrate is better than the porous casting used for the air "marine" generators.
The longevity of these pieces are also climate dependent. What seems to last forever in the Pacific Northwest of the US turns to powder in a few short years on the Texas gulf coast.
