It was later that night that I found a site, Cruising Under Power, and that site got me thinking that my old sea-mate, Jim, "may" have been right. The site is about how a working class Australian bought and converted a Trawler and is now cruising Asia!
Great site and an inspiration for me, my build and future cruising grounds

I first clean the surface oxidation or corrosion with a fine abrasive and then apply a penetating dye. I then view the surface with a 20X handheld microscope that was available from "RadioShack" about twenty years ago (I haven't seen them recently). I'll accept a little surface pitting, but no cracks. The most frequent problems tend to be at the lower swedges where they surround the wire rope. 'take care and joy, Aythya crew

You might find "Voyaging Under Power" by Robert P. Beebe revised by James F. Leishman worth reading.

I believe it is out of print, but used copies are available from Amazon.com.

If anyone was to buy This Piver Tri today, how long before that buyer would need to replace the rigging and/or sails and...What do you think it would cost to do so? The seller says the rigging is stainless and new and it's "Strictly" a crusing Tri, nothing fancy.

Good argument for an unstayed rig
