New sails

Has anyone purchased sails from Precision Sail? If so what are your thoughts?

Re: New sails

There is a big thread about them on sailnet forums. Sounds like another low overhead sail webshop selling imported sails at low margins. I think most people would recommend establishing a relationship with a local sail loft who will come to your boat, measure, sew that small bit of stitching that's come apart on your sail cover etc.

Re: New sails

DeborahLee,
I do not know any more than what I read on-line...so I cannot give you any definitive answers.....

But, it appears that like many "sail lofts", they are not really sailmakers, but simply have contracts with some lofts/mills offshore that cut/sew sailcloth according to the specs that they are sent...(and these specs are typically "generic", i.e. OEM or copies of OEM specs.)
In my opinion, their talk of "industry leading Sail Design software 'Sail Pack' TM" is disingenuous and misleading...
I may be wrong in my brief look, but that is how it looks to me...

And, FYI the applicable Sailnet thread is here....
Anyone know anything about Precision Sail Loft? - SailNet Community

FYI, if you desire to read up on sail cloth, sail design, and sail makers....plus some real-world experiences of some sail makers customers....
Have a look at these threads and sites...(there's plenty more out there, but these are the first ones, off-the-top-of-my-head....do a search for more..)

My recommendation:
Call Mack Sails and talk to Travis.....he'll get you an honest quote on high-quality, well-made sails...made right here in their loft in Florida...

P.S. In life, you usually get what ya' pay for....and, in my opinion, this is true for sails as well....
