Need Help Replacing Lifeline Cushions

I bought two new lifeline cushions to replace the old, mildewed ones on board but can't figure out how to get them on. One side of the lifeline has the pelican clip, which I can't seem to unscrew or loosen, and the other side has a T-shaped fitting and a metal clip that also seems rather immovable. Both of these are far too big to pass through the hole in the lifeline cushion.

I know I'm going about this the wrong way, but I haven't been able to find any info on what exactly that is. How should I proceed here?

Once the lock nut is backed off the pelican hook should be easily removed.

The pelican clip MAY be a reverse thread... in any event, try that; just back off the nut, remove the clip, remove the nut, slide it on, reverse ...

I've been unable to get that locking nut to budge but I didn't consider it could be reverse threaded.

I'll give that a try!

Give that locknut a shot of PB Blaster, close the pelican hook and run a dowel through it, then use a man-sized wrench on that sucker! Ta-da!

The picture shows the threads are clearly "left handed". Turn the nut the other way and it should loosen.

Re: Need Help Replacing Lifeline Cushions

Update: the threads were indeed reversed, and with the help of a screwdriver through the pelican clip I was able to get enough leverage to remove the clip and get the cushions on. Thanks for the help everyone!
