NAVTEC Leak.........

I have a Navtec hydraulic unit that adjusts my vang and backstay. The fitting where the backstary hose connects to the back of the unit is leaking a bit. I want to know if the leak can be fixed by tightening the nut (ie. pipe thread) or if conventional thread can I use teflon tape or similar?

On my Navtec system, the hose to fitting connections are a flare compression type of connection, while the metal to metal plumping connections are pipe threads, as far as I can tell. I've used teflon tape on these, but have been told to be careful not to let the tape wrap over the end of the fitting, because then a bit of it could get washed off into the hydraulic fluid where it could be transported to a place where it could gum up the works in an area of close tolerance. (I hope that makes some sense!)

Try giving the nut a bit of a turn. My boom vang is out for its THIRD rebuild in 12 months...

I made the mistake of having my Navtec vang cylinder worked on by a local hyd company...... BIG MISTAKE!
If it needs service send it to a Navtec repair facility.

I couldn't get Navtec to respond to my email. Local shop worked mine over twice. It still leaks down a little, but it appears to be back into the reservior. They weren't cheap and it didn't come out like new. I just give it a few pumps when I find it loose. Not often enough to keep track of it.

Mine is being worked on by a Navtec repair facility, and are just about the best there is. Has him scratching his head...
