Mounting Bell on Mizzenmast

I have a African Gray that rings a bell every morning, one that is on his cage. He would sit on the Mizzenmast if you weld a perch on it.

The bell has to be onboard but there is no rule that says it must be mounted. A PA horn that produces the sound of a bell is also legal.

bash--my ketch has yet to ring her bell in a good swell--- it fell off once but didnt ring other than that... we had 60 + kts wind, and seas to correspond, breaking over waist of boat, but nothing rang her bell......is on mizzen mast just to port of her companionway slider.

I guess one could always put a bungee cord on the clacker lanyard if it rings when you don't want it to.

if you want to MAKE a mounting plate. cut it as best you can. A bandsaw is the 'right' tool, but use what you have.

Then get some rough sandpaper, 60 grit or so.

tape the sandpaper to the mast and rub the block against it until the shape matches the curve of the mast.

Or roughly chew away at a wooden block using whatever tools are at hand .......then tape a plastic bag to the mast - and then offer up the wooden block coated with thickened Epoxy (no dripping!) to make the perfect fit ........having a rough finish inside the curve is now a good thing .........either stand holding it until set or use a bit of elastic to do the same........bound to be a bit of sandpapering edges required afterwards, but the more excess Epoxy you can wipe away when still wet the easier that will be.

Obviously make sure that no holes in the plastic bag............

......and do not scratch nose until Epoxy all cleaned up.
