Hi,
I am refitting an Ohlson 38 which has been sitting in a yard for a few years feeling sorry for herself. I that time copious amounts of
water have been running down the
mast, accumulating at the bottom and basically rotting away the fibre and step.
So I need to replace the maststep and wondered if there is any
advice on firstly is this something that I can do myself or is it better to get the yard to do it.
Money is as always an issue so I'd rather do it myself but of course don't want to take risks with the rig.
From what I've read I will need to dig out all the old sludgy
fiberglass and the
current plate, then glass in a block of
wood for a new step to sit on top. I do not think that the
mast needs anything off the bottom but am planning on having a closer look this weekend when down a the
boat.
