mast slightly bent
my mast is slightly bent to the back (banana-shape), although the backline is not turned on too tight. What could be the reason , and what's more important , could that mean a serious problem for my in-mast system ?
Thanks for any respons |

post a pic. Chances are its meant to be like that. (It helps the sail shape) what sort of boat is it? Is it "in mast furling" that you are talking about?

If you have any doubt hire a good rigger to take a look.

I have in-mast furling (Charlston Spar) and there is a slight bend toward the stern. I had a rigger look at it, and he said, "I like zee loook uff yoor mast." (He was French).

Let me guess bobs, Hunter with in mast furling? If so then it's probably normal, but you could still have it looked at or compare it to a similar model boat.
The hunters are curved like that because of the lack of a backstay (or so I've been told by someone who rigs them, he hates them), if not then what the heck I took a shot LOL

Some pre-bend may be normal.

You really need a rigger on the boat to determine if the bend is appropriate or excessive. Someone may have over tightened the rig or as other have said the mast may have the correct bend. We sold the Jeanneau and the mast with furler did have "some" bend to it.
