Here is the mostly completed repair, the loose bit of edge rope has been sewn on with a trimming but was not photographed.

We used the old eyelet but used tape through it to strengthen it.

Good job, will last a long time! Yes, the webbing through the eyelet is the trick.

Both the ring and the triangle will give a neat layout of the webbing.
