Re: Mack vs. North sails

We had Mack make us a new head sail for our Catalina 320 earlier this spring.

VERY happy with the sail. It was done perfectly, on-time, no problems. When we took delivery, we actually visited the loft in-person (in Stuart Florida) and Travis Mack gave us a tour.

We got to the loft floor and watched people working on sails. He showed and demonstrated the computer design process and the whole works.

NICE people - - -and we're very happy with the outcome. We would ABSOLUTELY buy the next sail(s) from Mack again.

We have Mack main and camber spar jib on our Manta 40 cat and are very happy with them. About 3 years old and doing very well. We also have a North Code Zero!

Have Mack Main and jib and new Main sail track/car system . Reasonable, good work, on time and on quote. NO Problems always go there if I need stuff.

Re: Mack vs. North sails

Went to the Miami Strictly Sail show with the purpose of ordering new sails. Went to every booth for an estimate for our Cal 27. Most sail makers could not be bothered and blew us off. Mack took as much time as we needed and answered every question. My wife liked the triple stitching on the sails. Mack called us when we returned home and helped us measure for the new sails. They arrived a few months later along with a profurl furler. Everything fit perfectly. I will gladly purchase another set when the time comes.

Re: Mack vs. North sails

My boat had a Mac jib on it when I bought it. I don't know how old it was at that time but I've put four years of abuse on it since and the only problem has been the Mac label came off. I like my jib.

Re: Mack vs. North sails

I have Mack sails on my Swan 36. They are 10 years old and work and look great almost like they are new.

I bought the boat from a full time cruiser who had used them for 5 years and I have been a part time cruiser, but have sailed with them about 7000 miles. Both the Previous Owner and I have taken good care of them and stowed them under cover when not in use.

They are wonderfully made and I have have no problems or complaints about then.

I would strongly suggest that you also take a look at Quatum sails. My experience with North is that they prefer to deal with racers that will be giving them repeat business.

Re: Mack vs. North sails

I had Mack make me a Genoa a few years ago and it was very good quality at a good price.
Recently I had shopped for a furling main for my C350 and no one could touch the prices from North Direct. They were 33% less than the least expensive, so I was a bit afraid, but bought it anyway.i cannot be any happier! It is a top quality sail that I discussed extensively with Alec in their Salem, MA loft. It has the logo, numbers, UV protection and telltales. It deploys and furls like a dream and has a great shape.
The way they save you money is that you do the measuring and then send them the completed worksheet that they supply. They'll build it out of any cloth you wish and that is a discussion to have with them.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Re: Mack vs. North sails

I just received a main sail from Mack and it is great. I had a problem and it was totally resolved without any issues. I'm in Grenada and the service could not have been better

Planning to get a jib from them in the near future.

I produced this testimonial video for Mack Sails.
You can listen to what Melissa has to say about her experience, or just enjoy the sailing clips
