Mack or Stack Pack ?

Would you get the other if you could?

Doyle Stackpack vs Mack Pack

I have a UK Sails "Lazy Cradle". Love it. The separation from the sail makes sense to me. But have no experience with the Stack Pack.

They look very close to me. The difference being the lazy jack runs through the cover. Instead of being attatched to the top of it?......i2f

I have the doyle stackpack with a doyle full battened main and the Tides track and slides. Absolutely love it. Come up into the wind, loose the halyard and bloop, into the cover it goes. Pull the zip line and its closed. All from the cockpit.

I have used both. Currently have the MackPak and don't like it as well as stack pack. Main reason it that the top of the pack is not supported so when I drop the main, it falls on top of the pack. I then have to climb on the cabin top to tuck it all in and zip it up.

The stack pack had a batten supporting the top and the sail fell into it.

Only advantage of the Mack that I see is the zipper which covers the sail to protect it from UV when stowed.

interesting to hear, mine has a zipper as well. I'll definitely be getting a stack pack made by someone, not sure if it will be doyle or not. My doyle was about 5 years old when we got the boat and it was basically falling apart in just about every single piece, the zipper, the top where the lazy jacks attach, etc.

Hmmm....

We have "Doyle cradle covers" so that's option 3 or it might be called Mack Pack today? (ours are from 2003).

The difference with the stackpack is that the stackpack is for sails that have the foot connected to the boom with sliders or boltrope, while the cradle cover is for loose footed sails. So, the stack pack is sewn to the sail while the cradle cover is not and has slides attaching it to the boom.

We made our own. It's basically a stack pack copy.
If you look closely at the diagram, you will see that one line on the starboard side of the boom lifts BOTH sides of the cover.

Welllll......it's not a done deal.

Just continuing my dreaming while looking in the purse.

Plus I am superstitious about telling lots of folks specific plans. I have proof of telling and having them fall apart and further proof of not telling and having a windfall.
