Re: Mack or Doyle ?

I just got a Mack main sail. They were great. I am in Grenada, measured it myself after talking to them. Had a few small problems, called them up and without any hesitation they worked out how to fix they issue and they covered the cost. I will be going back for another jib.

Doyle. They're made right here in Massachusetts. Where are Mack made. I have had good experiences with Mack. Five years, wow, the op is indecisive.

Doyle is made all over the world - they are a franchise with many loft locations. The quality is highly dependent on the individual loft.

Mack is a single loft in Florida, not Massachusetts.

Re: Mack or Doyle ?

Shipping my new sailboat from Ohio to Stuart, FL via truck. If this were your boat, which would you use to rig it, Mack or Doyle?

Re: Mack or Doyle ?

I have never used Doyle, but I've used Mack for rigging inspection, two new headsails, and a mainsail. That I keep going back to them I believe says it all.

Mack or Doyle ?

I just bought new headsails, whisker pole etc. from Mack, sails are great, prefect fit, no glitches.
Delivered on time and done exactly like I asked and at a competitive price, not often I get all of those at once.

Next year or so I'm taking them the boat to pull and rewire the mast, replace standing rigging and chain plates

Re: Mack or Doyle ?

Every loft is different. It is not Doyle or Mack. It is this loft or that loft.

Go to the loft, look at their sails, see how they work, see how long they have been in the business.

I do not know Mack but I know Doyle (NZ, Auckland loft). TOP quality.

Have fun shopping and sailing.

Re: Mack or Doyle ?

We had Mack make our headsail. We are very very happy with it . . . and their service. We picked the sail up in person (Stuart, FL) and the owner spent about an hour with us. He gave us a whole tour of the loft, introduced us to his staff, demonstrated the Computer Design process (for custom spinnakers), etc. We saw the staff making sails - - - real American craftsman sewing on the cringles by hand, laying out the panels, etc.

We were very impressed and will DEFINITELY buy future sails from them.

MACK
I can't say anything about Doyle as I have not used them. But if you want it right the first time, go Mack. Service is the key. Also, they offer no other option but the highest quality materials and sail cloth.

Re: Mack or Doyle ?

There is a Doyle loft in St. Petersburg, FL, and they quoted me some great prices on new sails for my Caliber. I will probably end up using them because they were the OEM supplier to Caliber and are very familiar with the dimensions, etc. Mack is located in Stuart, FL, and was a bit more expensive, but no doubt has a great reputation. I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

Re: Mack or Doyle ?

Interesting, it's overwhelming for Mack. I bought new sails from Doyle.

They were made by the loft in Barbados and delivered to the boat in St. Lucia. Very happy with them. I had quotes from a number of makers and Doyle was competitive.

The owner of our charter company did some direct work in Barbados with the loft there when they were coordinating the job and everything turned out great.
