We're adding side boarding gates to our 37' sailboat and figured it was the perfect time to replace all of the lifelines.

Can anyone recommend a good supplier of cable & hardware in the midwest? (Anywhere from Chicago, IL to Cleveland, OH.)

FYI We got a turn-key estimate (from a reputable yard up in northern Michigan, near where our boat is), which was close to $2,000. (Materials $1200 and labor $900.) So now we're looking at plans B & C: Plan B is sending the measurements to the rigger and Plan C is simply ordering the materials and DIY.

My goodness, at those prices you can easily afford to buy a good NicoPress tool and DIY. In no other source appears, good ole West marine can supply all the bits you will need. It is a pretty easy job, and IMO 900 bucks labour is OTT.

It was a few years ago but we replaced the lifelines on our 34' for around $300. Took them into west marine, they measured and put the order in. The only issue we ran into was apparently the old lines had stretched a bit, so they were a little loose. We took them back in and they took a couple inches off and all was good.

Even with a bit of hardware, I can't see that estimate as reasonable unless it includes adding new stantions and supports along with properly sealing the new holes to bolt the stantions down.

A little East of your location, but Rigging Only turned around my mizzen standing rigging package in less than a day, at the best price of 3 quotes.

Something else frequently suggested is coordinating replacing the standing rig and using the wire from the 'old' rig to replace the lifelines. this is premised on the standing rigging getting much more strain and wear than lifelines, and likely nicely oversized for same. Natch, YMMV.
Either way, it's a pretty easy DIY to start with.
