Large Norseman Terminals Unreliable?

Our shipyard has told us that large Norseman terminals had a bad reputation and can be unreliable (contrary to the small ones ). The main stays of our Outremer 50 cat should be replaced even though they look(?) quite good.
What is this rumor about reduced reliability of large Norsemans?

I've never heard that, and cannot imagine why it would be true.

Re: Large Norseman Terminals Unreliable?

What do you mean by "large"? We've been using them on 10 mm Dieform for years with no problems, but they come in much larger sizes.

From memory, Norseman fittings are Lloyds approved, so an inquiry to that organization might bring some realistic data to complement the anecdotal criticism you are getting.

Cheers,

Jim

Norseman and Sta-lok have equally good reputations to my knowledge. I have heard of very few failures that weren't traceable to poor or incorrect installations.

My entire rig is norseman, absolutely love them. Ask your yard to back up their statements with some real world examples.

Thank you for your good feedback! I will check again with the ship yard and probably just do a good check instead of a replacement.

Re: Large Norseman Terminals Unreliable?

If its any help, I just re-rigged the boat and re-used all but a few of the original Norseman terminals. Norseman was first mechanical fitting and have been tried and tested at sea for many years.
