Ideal placement of midship cleat

I have a 32' Rhodes Chesapeake. While recoring i damaged the teak toerail about five feet forward of true midship. I have left over bronze cleats and have always wanted a midship cleat. My idea is to remove the toerail where the damage is and put in a cleat.

Would this be too far forward as an effective pivot point while leaving a dock?

Thanks
Christian

Will you need a chock??? If you do, that will be the leverage point. Other than that, get a volunteer to pretend they are a cleat at the dock and see how the boat behaves at various positions.

Not having a pic of your deck layout kinda hard to say... but I'd put it as close to midships as possible without interfering with anything else and the springs do not put pressure on the GR stanchions either side... or you could just get your boat in position on the finger and fit it so it lines up with the cleat on the finger..
