How to disassemble an older Hood roller furler?

It's time to replace the head stay. The boat has an older Hood 800 SL roller furler system from 1993. I can't figure out how to remove the rivets that hold the foil sections together.

The original manual says there is a pin in the center of the rivet that is hammered in to lock the rivet in place. How do I remove them without destroying the foil?

Can I just keep driving the pin farther in until it falls out on the inside? Or do I have to drill them out?

Re: How to disassemble an older Hood roller furler?

I don't think you can disassemble it. I've seen videos of pros replacing the stay. They cut one end of the wire off and tack weld the new wire onto to the end. Then pull the old wire out and new wire in. Then put the end terminals on. Not a real diy job. When I replaced my rigging a couple years ago, I replaced the furler too. But the old foil was damaged which is what got me started in the first place.

I think I've figured it out

Just gotta push out inner bits out and the pins should fall out I assume as that's all holding them in?

Thank you

Yep, I had to cut the stainless wire as I assume they were swaged on to fit

Re: How to disassemble an older Hood roller furler?

I ended up drilling them out, then decided to just get a brand-new furling system to go with the new head stay. So, I don't know how easy it is to reassemble the old ones after you take it apart.

A call to Hood might be in order. Good luck!

It's the inner spacer that keep them in place I think.

I'm disassembling to replace but I'd like to sell the seafurl to help pay for the new one if possible

I'll know if I'm right in the next hour I guess
