Doh-raid'...............? I guess the answer stays with Olin Stephens and his 1929 vessel, Dorade, that first carried these vent boxes.

Re: How Do You Pronounce "Dorade"

dor-ADD. Accent on the second syllable. I'm willing to acknowledge that my familiarity with French pronounciation could be influencing me here, but that's how I pronounce the name of the dorade fish, as well.

I had the joy of working on Dorade. A beautiful yacht. One of the original vents with the boats name on it was kept on the wall in Vic Franks shop for many years.

They were carried by ships much earlier. I came to Canada on an old hog islander, built in 1919, and it has a TON of them.

Re: How Do You Pronounce " Dorade "

Avb3, I think it might have been the box with the baffle in it to stop water intrusion that was Olin Stephens' contribution to the ventilation device, not the cowls seen in the picture above.
