Hood Linedriver uses?

Besides as a line driver for continuous line furlers, what are uses for a Hood Linedriver? Does anyone use one to control a traveler?

Picture a self tailing winch top part, that grabs the line, but with no drum. It has a reversing lever, to change directions.
On a furler, with a continuous furling line, it lets you winch the line in either direction.

I think it would be great to move the traveler. No uncleating, just turn the winch handle.

Re: Hood Linedriver uses?

When I acquired Bluestocking, she was fitted with a Hood LD continuous line furler.
A nightmare to keep tension on both legs of the line in any sort of breeze. Would not hold a semi-furled jib even in light air.
The Line driver was supposed to allow you to keep both legs taut, to eliminate slippage at the drum.
I didn't have one, but a rigger friend said they never worked right.
