Harken Cruising Unit II Furler

I have had very good results with Harken furlers in the past on my boats and am considering a Cruising Unit II for my current boat. Im looking for comments from folks who have experience with this specific furler. Any troubles or problems? Im not looking for advice on other furlers thanks.

Re: Harken Cruising Unit II Furler

I have a system 1 drum onboard - a diving friend picked it up ... from the bottom of our marina. It looked like it spent quite some time there. It was dead frozen with dirt so I flushed it and took it all apart. I cleaned it. I put it back together. Good as new.

I think Harken makes some good stuff.

Re: Harken Cruising Unit II Furler

I almost went with that this year but instead purchased a Schaefer SNAPFURL.

Based on my research, both are well built systems but the Schaefer had a reputation (deserved or not) for being more durable and better for reefing. I was told that if I was a racer the Harken would be the best choice but for a cruising the Schaefer was optimum.

One dealer (who obviously was selling Harken) had a completely opposing view that said that that was hogwash. Harken may be easier to install (although I had minimal problems with the Schaefer).

Hope that helps.
