Gate/Life Lines Pelican Hooks...What type?

Gate would help Bentley, our 4-legged sailor, board and disemBARK.

What else should be considered besides . . .

size--probably 1/8 in?

type-pelican hook for gates, ss or ?

quantity-upper and lower lifelines, so 2 hooks for the gate?

opposite side of gate hooks on stanchion-need swages?

where to cut-simply cut the lines close to the stanchion?

gate location-boat slip is on starboard side, so install there with access to
cockpit...seems logical...
