Funky Winches!

Anyone ever seen one of these before and have any idea how to take it apart? I have two of these on my 1967 Chris Craft Apache that are frozen that need to come off for service and so I can paint my deck!

Aloha Brian,
Have you tried using a spanner in the two smaller holes? I usually use an adjustable fuel/water cap removal tool. If you can get something to fit then it should be an easy removal.

I just use two drill bits sized to fit the holes as tight as reasonable, then use a long screwdriver as a lever arm. That is if you don't want to buy the tool.

John has a great idea. You might even make your own tool using machine screws the right diameter and screw through whatever piece of strong material you might find around the house, i. e. length of pipe, piece of 1x2 about 18" long, etc.

That way you'd have a "funky wrench" for your funky winch.

personally, I would have stuck the ends of some long nose pliers in the holes, and used a long screwdriver to turn it.

These things can't be in there that hard. Two nails in aboard should work if you only leave a stub. They should be through bolted once you can get inside.
