Full Batten Main w/o the Battens

I'm evaluating a used fully batten main that I am contemplating keeping. The battens haven't arrived yet.

Is there a problem with using the sail without the battens? The sail in question is on the boat and we are going out with it tomorrow. Should I put the old sail back on?

The roach will collapse, the sail will flog and kill itself, wait for the battens.

I have had full-batten mains on 2 boats and I know what the sails look like when they are out for maintenance or such. I never tried to sail them that way - I only hoisted them to get a neat stack on the boom. You can EASILY stretch the leach.
