Do You Think a Windvane Could Work on this Rafiki ?

We were looking at the stern of this Rafiki and realized that it didn't seem like a windvane would be a feasible proposition but before totally writing the idea off I thought I would get other opinions. Have at it.

That's too pretty of a boat to encumber with an ugly windvane. Lots of folks don't have one, skip it in my opinion.

Thanks for you opinion but that was not really the question. I agree with the aesthetic sentiments however.

Wind vanes are for crossing oceans. But yeah one can be adapted to your hull design.

Re: Do You Think a Windvane Could Work on this Rafiki ?

ShayW, we own a Rafiki 37 and she has an Aries windvane, so it is definitely possible. However, our Rafiki's boomkin is made of very solid stainless steel pipes instead of the original teak. I doubt if that would make that much difference.

Here's a profile shot (the best I could find quickly). I might be able to do better if need be:

Re: Do You Think a Windvane Could Work on this Rafiki ?

FWIW,

Good friends have a Rafiki fitted with a Monitor. Has worked well on numerous passages in the SW Pacific. A very practical answer to short handed voyaging, and a must have IMO.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Do You Think a Windvane Could Work on this Rafiki ?

Prob noblem. Look at the commercial models but also look at the koster windvane as used in nordic countries (where we have many canoe stern boats). The vane is roughly at the cockpit and the pendulum drives the rudder directly. They are extremely easy to build.
