Re: deck winch

I'm not sure exactly what winch you have there. Is it labled "Custom..." or is it a custom built #22? I've not heard of such, myslef.

But the good news is that most of the sorta consumable bits in winches are to some degree interchangeable. Things like pawls, pawl springs and some bearings...

The Arco-Hutton winch company in Sydney has parts for older Barients and Barlows and some others. They would be a good source to investigate.

Meanwhile a photo of your winch showing any ID markings might help us help you.

Re: deck winch

Thanks for your reply Jim. its actually the bronze tower that the spindle rotates in that has broken, its not vital as it is used for furling and we have couple of alternatives so I thought I would see if I could find a replacement as a different breed will be bound to have different mounting holes. Edit trying to add photo

Re: deck winch

Ouch, Ian... that's a pretty major part of the winch! Being that I've never come across the marque IIRC, it seems likely that the firm ain't around any more, and it would only be through a used boat-bits sort of place that one might possibly find a replacement.

But, ya never know... could get lucky. Post a pic if you can, and we'll all have a look. There are a lot of folks on CF, and someone might know more than I do.

Again, good luck!
