re: Deck Prisms...where to buy?

I recall seeing them at Preston's on Long Island and also at Mystic Seaport in CT. Check the internet for either.

re: Deck Prisms...where to buy?

Hi Rich,
I bought deck prisms from the Center for Wooden Boats in Port Townsend. They had a reasonable selection. I was there when I bought them and don't recall if they had an online catalog or not. Cheers, Bob SV Nirvana (now in Panama's Caribbean waters)

Fyi acrylic prisms only transmit 25% the light glass ones do ....acrylic also crazes in short time especially in the tropics ...not something I would ever recommend. ....my Co. Marine Skylights has been providing rectangular , round and melon style

re: Deck Prisms...where to buy?

Fabulous....
After I tried to tell my wife they didn't make cool old school stuff like this anymore she is thrilled with the links and info you guys have provided. Now at least when she sees me messing around on Cruisers Forum she won't roll her eyes at me "as much". Add another project for the deck but they really do look so cool and nautical it will be a great addition to the boat. Our forward bunk and head only have a port hull and they can be pretty dark even during the day.

So let me show you guys what started this whole Deck Prism kick.
We have seen them before on boats, but during the deck project we took off the dorade box/vents and that left a hole right above my wife's pillow. Nice for star gazing but we needed a temporary plug the hole while working on the deck, so what fit in there perfectly was a Taco Bell extra large drink cup. Now I know, I know...don't harass me for eating a Taco Bell. But the white plastic cup lit up the room amazingly. As soon as my wife saw that she wanted a deck prism! You can even see some of the deck sanding dust in the bottom of the cup...we call it our Redneck deck prism....ha ha ha

Oh and jrossbruce I will be emailing you my friend!

Deck Prisms...where to buy?

Rich, If you tell Taco Bell you are using their cup on a boat they will quadruple the price... Still not bad for deck prisms.

Thanks for the mention, Steady Hand.

Schooner Chandlery does have Davey & Co products on our site including deck prisms. Here's a link that may be helpful. A lot of builders used Davey bronze products so those on the OP's boat could be the same.

This site has info about deck prisms and includes a list of suppliers, to: Link
