I have also seen rigs where the davit lines were led...

... to the sheet winches. That would manage any dingy.

Re: Davit Falls

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Borocay, thats one substantial set of davits there, I may need to add a few more lengths of anchor chain to get the boat back on even keel.
James, very nice davits.
I checked the specs on the dink, its 32kg empty. Solar panels would be 2 x 15kg.
I think once the davits are in place, I would be in better position to judge any extra bits needed, like as suggested, some sort of curved pads to snug the dink tube into.
Its only going to be hanging there for coastal hops, longer passages it will get deflated and dumped in a lazerette.

Cheers
Nigel

Nigel,

Check out this site. All you ever want to know about davits. I got a set from them on my CS36M.

Thanks Vasco, seem similar in design to what I have intended, but I'll be using 40mm diameter tubing for the main part, and 25mm for the support.
Been quoted about $1200 to fabricate the davits, I'll be fitting them, and providing the falls etc

Jolly Roger is a member here and this was his rather excellent solution. I'm sure he won't mind me passing on this link.

Mechanical dinghy hoist.

Re: Davit Falls

Just to finish off, the davits are now fitted (with seperate falls).
Really pleased with the end result. Cost of the davits was £800, fabricated by a small outfitted completely unrelated to the marine industry.

Re: Davit Falls

Garhauer Marine sells some of the cheapest and best quality blocks/running rigging on the market.

They are the factory supplier for several manufactures, including Catalina and Beneteau.

Their davits are made 4-1, but you can ask for additional purchase if necessary.

The catalog does not list falls as a separte item, but if you email or call they will give you a price.

Here is the web site:

Nice set-up Nigel!

Just for fun (and to add to the Garhauer recommendation by Tom) here's my set-up. I made my own bridles using Amsteel and Brummell splices. The blocks are Garhauer, and were more affordable than much lower quality Harken or Ronstan. My 6 year old can haul up the bow of the dinghy with the 6:1 and cam cleat. I'd recommend Garhauer in a heartbeat (no $$ interest).

Re: Davit Falls

Here's mine on a standard Beneteau 423 arch shimmed to fit the 393 transom.

Here's another pic with 4 ratchet straps so that there is absolutely no movement in any direction.

Re: Davit Falls

For some reason, the standard Bene arch is only produced in the US, and not Europe. The cost of shipping from US to UK made that route uneconomical, and the quotes I got to have an arch made were from another planet
