Cyclone damage to mast paint

Does anyone have any experience of paint being stripped from a mast by cyclone strength winds?

Was your paint ready to fail already? Was the wind and rain strong enough to etch, and then chisel the paint off? It's amazing what mother nature can do!!! just a thought!

I once had a customer who wanted their plane home by the Thanksgiving holiday. The wx often sucks in November but I said OK, I'll be there. I needed to fly from Oregon to New Mexico and of course the wx sucked. By the time I got there the wing leading edges were bare. Rain at 150 knots leaves a pretty good edge to feather out for a new paint job.

I would love to have the paint stripped from my mast by the wind and rain. It would save me a lot of work. But I have never been so fortunate to see that happen. I am going to do a great deal of sanding when I paint my mast.

my wood mast survived patricia, the strongest ever epac cane without loss of paint. our steady winds were 200 mph, where we were at the center on landfall, and our gusts were only 250, but no paint removal.
i have never heard of paint removal in a cane. entire house removal, entire beach removal, tree upheaval but not paint stripping.
my damages were from having wind gen on masthead=---will not be doing that again but the paint did not blow off. i have never seen paint be blown off in a cane.

If you were near a beach, I've seen paint stripped by blowing sand. I wouldn't think wind and clean water would strip well adhered paint. I used to race a hydroplane that would go close to a hundred miles an hour and the spray never damaged the paint.
