"Cupple" for Norseman fitting?

Hello all,

So I was looking through West Marine's catalog since I needed to order a new cone for a Norseman fitting and in the catalog I see something called a "Cupple" for Norseman fittings. It looks like it might be something similar to a former used with the Stalok fittings but I cannot find any reference to them anywhere except in the marine catalogs.

Does anyone know what they are used for and do I need them to re-use a Norseman? (the old one doesn't have one in it)

Regards,
David

Contact a rigger in your area to source the Norseman cones. Or go direct to Norseman.
Beware of copies.

Thanks for the tip.

Any idea what the "Cupple" is for?

It's what the cone pushes against. It's down in the bottom of the fitting. Usually stuck in there and looks like part of the fitting.

None of the Norseman fittings that I have used have any such part. However, Sta-Lok fittings do indeed have what they call a "former" that is as you describe.

I believe that the "cupple" is a Navtek part, used with their stemball mast fittings. The West catalog is pretty vague about them, but it does show the stemballs with a separate cup fitting that acts as a bearing surface between the terminal and the mast receptacle.

So, to reuse your Norseman fittings, only a new cone is required... plus a careful cleaning of the insides of the fitting to remove any old sealant.

Cheers,

Jim

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that its not part of a standard fitting.
