Catalina 30 shrouds

I need to replace a rotted piece of wood that my starboard shroud is attached to on a Catalina 30. This is not the shroud that goes to the top of the mast, it's the one that attaches just under the spreader.

Is it ok to just loosen the same shroud on the port side and remove this one? Since I live 4 hours away from the boat, it will be a few weeks before I get back to reattach.

Re: Catalina 30 shrouds

Shouldn't be a problem but don't go sailing without it. Would loosen the cap shrouds and the stays so they aren't trying to compress the mast and causing a curve in the stick.

Re: Catalina 30 shrouds

The boat is a long way from ready to sail.

Re: Catalina 30 shrouds

My Catalina 28 is surprisingly noodley without the intermediates. If it was me, I’d follow roverhi’s advice and then secure the intermediate with the missing chainplate to a deck fitting or stantion with some small diameter line. Just a little force to balance out the rig.
Your situation may be different.
