Catalina 30 Anchor locker cleat

I have a 1993 Catalina 30. Can anyone confirm that the cleat located inside the anchor locker is in fact a structural cleat?

By using this cleat the rode runs nice a fair and does not chafe on the pulpit.

There does appear to be a backing block located in the v-berth.

Your anchor locker cleat was not meant to be a structural cleat to hold the boat while at anchor. That job was intended for the bow cleat or on some vessels, the port/starboard cleats. Your anchor locker cleat was meant as a safety feature in a worse case scenario if your anchor rode quickly payed out to its bitter end to prevent you from losing your anchor and rode. However, you can make it stronger with a backing plate which I have just recently fitted on my boat. I hope this helps. Good luck and safe sailing.
