Boots, there must be something different

Our lower spreader is a junction of a lot of activity. But every multiple spreader boat with intermediate shrouds has the same problem: how to cover all those nasty cotter pins. I can mush the extra large West Marine rubber boot over the whole thing but it only lasts a year or two. (And looks like....) Other than custom leathers m , any alternate suggestions?

Have you tried putting a roller above the spreader tip? Did it help save the boot? Thanks!

A very neat leather boot. I like using the really small gray Sprecta cord from Samson for the stitching. It seems to last the longest.
