That seems odd to me: I thought that the reason for using CSF or other such services was to take advantage of their lower labour rates for the labour intensive jobs like seaming and assembly of a sail. Many local lofts, even fairly small outfits, have computer driven cutters just like CSF, so why would Ullman outsource the cutting and insource the labour?

Just curious...

Cheers,

Jim

Re: ballpark price on new asian mainsail

Got me, maybe they are having trouble with the quality of the assembly?

The sail would be a laminated membrane, they are one of the biggest producers of different types of membrane sails and can be brought finished or unfinished..

The quality of assembly is very high and detailing is controlled by the company ordering the sail, but quite often you have to pay import duty on a finished sail but no duty on unfinished. It is also better marketing to say the sail is finished locally.

CSF is just one of the many wholesale production factory's - Hyde Philippines, Quantum South Africa, North Sails Sri-Lanka, Dimension Polyant Sri-lanka. They all make sails for other sail brands.

These factory's are not comparable with the likes or Rolly Tasker and Lee Sails which are retail operations for low cost sails.
