Aries windvane lines

My Aries windvane has been given great service so far. I'm now about to replace the lines. My take is that a solid braid line is preferable to a line with a core and a sleeve, as the sleeve may break in short time. Does anyone have any suggestion to what line will hold up best? It looks like 3/8 is the size to use.

Also, as the manual suggests, the lines are tied with a square knot before they go over the wheel drum. I have used split bolt connectors to tie the lines, but they tend to chew the line up. In any case, not the elegant solution I was looking for. Is there some hardware for that? Preferably adjustable, although it seems the lines do not need to be very taut.

Re: Aries windvane lines

I use non stretch (not double braid) line. The inner line should be straight. They don't have to be super tight, but can't have slack or there will be wandering.
