Am wondering if anyone has expereince in dealing with China Sail Factory.

Any thoughts on reliability as a supplier and the quality of their product?

Checkout the cloth and make sure you know what you are getting.

Re: Any one dealt with China Sail Factory?

China Sail Factory builds to spec, what "sailmakers" order. If sailmaker spec's junk cloth or lame features, then that's what they build. If premium spec's, then that's what you get. Also they don't design the sail, the sailmaker does and sends them a CAD file. China Sail Factory has their price to the sailmaker, who then add mark up for their profit (Hyde Sails aren't necessarily cheaper and of mid quality build).

We've had sails made in the phillipines and were quite satisfied great quality at half the cost.

I'm sorry but on this forum you often get the response, " I got my sails from XXX and they are the best ". It doesn't really mean a lot unless maybe you own a charter fleet and have tried many different sailmakers.
As a sailmaker you gain a vast experience of repairing sails from many different sailmakers and over the years have a vast knowledge of what is good and what is not.
China sail factory is not a retail sailmaker and Totem summed it up.

Many sailmakers have their sails manufactured at CSF as per Totem. However, most do not tell you that. The exception is Island Planet Sails who are straightfoward about there process.

Had sails from Hong Kong you get what you order, you have to be verrry specific . They will drive you crazy with questions after order is placed. Communication is tough due to language and time zones. They said they couldn't get the slides I needed and the battens weren't supplied. I was brand new and was some what over my head.I did use them for 10 years. Just this year I purchased new sales from Precision. The cost was almost the same with reduced shipping. Everything was much simpler could call them and talk to them and am very pleased with my sails. They came with the right slugs and the battens. I am very pleased with them their cloth recommendations and quality, they even talked me into free footing it which I am very pleased with.

Re: Any one dealt with China Sail Factory?

We, at Calvert Sails, use China Sail Factory as well as build quite a few sails in our St. Petersburg loft.
I had owned and run my own sail loft for 32 years before sending orders overseas. I have use numerous Hong Kong and China lofts for sails ranging from windsurfer sails to large multihull sails. The China Sail Factory has proven to be the best company to deal with and their quality is the best I have seen. We also use Hyde Sails to manufacture some sails and have been very happy with them as well. China Sail Factory only makes sails for sail makers. They call themselves"The Sailmakers Sailmaker"
In each case, we send them the design file along with a "cut sheet" this describes in detail the construction wanted as well as the cloth, hardware, and small details that the sailmaker wants in his or her sail.

Yes Don't touch them with a barge pole!
I have heard they have gone broke (should be a relief to all) but they are not a good company to deal with.

Re: Any one dealt with China Sail Factory?

We ordered new sails from a Kiwi sailmaker who uses China Sail Factory to cut, sew and detail the sails he designs - a main, genoa and staysail. The sails are holding up well and there were only a couple of issues that I wasn’t happy about but I’ve gotten over them. However, I liked the North Sails that we had previously and if I were to need new sails, I’d probably go back to North.

Fair winds and calm seas.

Sense my last post, we have changed over to using Durtek Sails and Hyde Sails for our overseas production. Very happy with the quality of both!

Re: Any one dealt with China Sail Factory?

Its been shutdown for a month or two by the authorities. Sorry for anyone who ordered sails and paid a deposit. But it was oblivious it was on the way out, it went downhill over a long period of time.
